Molding, Hooks and Sign...Oh My! {Dec. 2012}

I have for quite some time been wanting to make a wood sign for my hall bathroom. I finally got around to it a few weeks ago. I just purchased this board in the scrap bin for under a buck at HD.

I found a way to copy the font I wanted without using or buying stencils. I wasn't sure it was going to work but it did! I found the font I wanted off my computer, printed it, then used a pencil and traced the words really dark, laid the paper on the wood and took my pencil and traced over the letters again. That way it would transfer! You can see the pencil in this picture.

I then took a black paint pen sharpie that you can get at your local craft store and painted careful all the letters that transferred from the paper. Once everything was dry I roughed it up with sandpaper.

I also had other visions for the same bathroom. Ty and I took measurements and went to HD where they cut all the wood slats to the sizes we wanted! This makes your projects SO much easier! I had a plan to figure out a way to make it easier to grab your towel when climbing out of your shower. Where the previous towel rack was didn't make much sense.

This project was SO easy and fast! I don't think it took more than an hour!

My bathroom sign and towels found a good home in the hall bathroom!

I'm so pleased at how it all looks and turned out. This project cost around $25.00! Not too shabby!

Kitchen Cabinet Magnetic/Chalkboard

My side kitchen cabinet felt bare. I needed to do something to it....but what? I knew I didn't want to nail anything onto it. My mind started rolling...

I then decided to paint a magnetic/chalkboard onto it! I knew this would not only be good for me to use, but my kids too! They already have had a blast with it! I feel this really helped my kitchen be more unique and gave it that extra pop I was looking for!

Already Shabby Chair!

Found this ALREADY DONE shabby chic chair at a garage sale yesterday!

I scored!!! Love garage sales!!!

Painted Walls in Living/Dining Room

Formal Dining Room before I painted it. The previous people that lived here did Faux painting with 4 different colors on the walls! We hated it and I got rid of it fast!

Living Room Faux paint before picture.

Formal Dining Room after picture! I painted it a pale yellow/tanish color. Very warm and inviting! I  LOVE how it turned out!

Painted Bedroom

Here are some pictures of Levi's room that I just painted! There is no before picture since it was just white walls. I let Levi choose his paint color and it was green, of course! We decided to do 2 different tones of green with a wood chair rail in between. So the white line on the walls is just my marker for me to know where to put the chair rail. I don't have it yet since I just got done painting and I was excited to show everybody how it all turned out. Once Levi's room is 100% done {curtains, bedding, etc} I will post those pictures too! I'm really happy the way his green walls turned out with his black furniture! I'm really excited to get done with it all since I have some great ideas for his wall decor!

Dining Table

Before picture of my dining table.

I started out by sanding the whole table down....just enough to roughen it up so that the paint will adhere to the table.

I chose to paint it Summer Grey
{it looks white, but has a hint of grey tone underneath}

Once the paint was dry I then distressed the table to give it the antique look I wanted.

I mixed 3:1 parts of finishing glaze & Minwax walnut stain in a cup. With a paint brush I brushed on the mixture all over the table and legs. I immediately wiped the mixture off with a dry cloth just like you would if you were staining a piece of furniture. This gave my table a worn antique look that I was wanting.

Kitchen Table

I got this kitchen table for FREE from my dear friend Sarah! I was so excited that it was a round table! I wanted a round!

The best part about this table is that it has a hidden leaf. So when I am ready I just pull and POOF...a BIGGER table appears!

I found 4 Pier One chairs on craigslist for $50 bucks! That's right...$50 bucks total!

Here is the base of my finished table. I took a close picture to show all the distressing I did.

My finished chair! What a difference!

I decided to two-tone the table and chairs. I wanted an antique white, but wasn't sure I should paint it that color on the table top and seats since I have boys that will be sitting & eating there daily!

I chose a chocolate brown once I decided to two-tone the table and chairs.

I had a really hard time deciding on what finish I wanted to use. I didn't want my table to be super shinny. I tried a satin  polyurethane on the table top and seats and it just wasn't working. I needed something easier to wipe down. So I ended up using a poly semi-gloss. For the base of the table, legs and back of the chairs I used Minwax wax. It is more matte. I love how it all turned out and am excited to use it!

Garage Sale Fence

I went garage sale-ing a few weekends ago. When I approached one of the garage sales I instantly saw this white fence and fell in love. There were clothes hanging from it that were for sale so I wasn't sure the fence was. I asked the lady whose garage sale it was. She said it wasn't, but she asked me how much would I take it for? She proceeded to tell me she made it and used it has her daughters headboard once upon a time. So in my mind I thought she was at least going to want $20.00 bucks for it and I wanted to offer her $10.00. I told her I wasn't sure how much to give her so she would just give me a price. I hate the bargaining game. She said, "how about $8.00 bucks for it." I was so EXCITED! So I of course told her, "deal!"

It came already painted white and I like it so I didn't need to repaint it!

I knew I was going to distress it. I started to a little as you can see here.

There were knicks and dings in the fence so I played along with it and distressed really good in those areas to highlight them more!

I added  hardware to it to make it feel more like a fence gate.

I also added a wreath I made to hang from it.

When I was all done I had the PERFECT spot for it....above the fireplace!

I am just SO in love with it and happy the way it all turned out! I just LOVE garage sales!

Small Bathroom Cabinet

I purchased this cute wall shelf at a garage sale a month ago. The old man that was selling it said his father-in-law hand-made it! I love to hear the history of my findings! I thought he was going to want more for it because of the sentiment that it had. $3 bucks! It was SOLD!

I decided I wanted to to paint it a white {summer grey} color. The style of painting I did on it is called, dry brushing. This style of painting gives me that worn look I was wanting.....as if I just grabbed it from the barn and hung it up!

I kept all the original hardware. It was too cute to let go!

Knob.

I put some white linens in the cabinet below.

I found this cute syrup holder that had a really cute spout. I used that to put bath salts in.

I love how it all turned out!

This is one of my favorite things in my house right now!

It's perfect over my sunken tub!
